Calling
back legends of the big block 427 convertibles of the mid 1960s, the 2013 Corvette
427 Convertible brings the supercar performance to the top down experience.
That’s 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, a top speed of 190 mph on the test track and
505 horsepower with the wind in your hair. Remember to breathe. At the heart of
427 Convertible is the 7.0-liter (427 ci) LS7 aluminum-block V8, handcrafted by
our own skilled engine craftsmen at the GM Performance Build Center where
owners are invited to play a part with the optional Corvette Engine Build
Experience.
The
engine incorporates lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods and
contains a high-performance dry-sump oil system, which distributes pressurized
oil to protect vital components under high-g driving conditions. Its
track-ready power tucked within the classic Corvette convertible body for the
first time in 60 years.
It’s
track-ready power with the support of state-of-the-art control. Corvette 427
Convertible uses monoblock six-piston front calipers and
four-piston rears, while the extra-large 14-inch front rotors and 13.4-inch
rears are vented and cross-drilled. It also pulls elements from Z06 and Grand
Sport such as 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels; and Michelin PS2
summer-only tires, which offer exceptional grip. Combining
these elements give the 427 Convertible a grounded and aggressive appearance
that also supports its high-speed capability with incredible stopping power as
well.
The
2013 Corvette 427 Convertible pulls elements from both the Z06 and ZR1 into the
Corvette convertible body creating the ultimate dream Corvette. The classic and
aggressive appearance with rounded fenders, and its powerful silhouette are
distinctive while the use of the latest in lightweight material from the Z06
and ZR1 including its Carbon Fiber raised hood, floor panels and fenders
visually strengthen its track-ready look while helping to make it the fastest
and most capable Corvette Convertible yet. It’s the best of the most powerful
and aggressive Corvette appearances brought together in a convertible body for
the first time ever.
The
427 interior is designed to impress and give you a comfortable, stylish ride. Cushion
areas offer support as do the large bolsters on the seatback and optional
microfiber seat inserts. The comfort continues with a padded center console and
armrests which also complement the new design with model-specific badging on
the steering wheel, streamlined switch trim, wrapped spokes, better hand
placement and thumb grips.
There
are no limits to this, the most luxurious interior available in a Corvette.
Step up your elegance by opting into the Custom Leather-Wrapped Interior
Package with the 1SC trim level and add contrasting color stitching in red,
blue or yellow. Want to increase style even further?

Corvette
racing is about more than simply winning on the track. It’s about bringing the technologies
developed to win into production models and building a better Corvette. Over
the years, our engineers have worked closely with the Corvette Racing Team to
co-develop innovations that have improved Corvette models year after year.
Innovations such as the LS7 engine co-developed with the Corvette Le
Mans-winning GT1 engine, which features lightweight titanium connecting rods
and intake valves, as well as the racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and
dry-sump oil system. Even the Carbon Fiber elements found in the 427
Convertible were developed on the racetrack, because in the end if it makes it
a better racecar, it makes it a better Corvette.
Control
is a good thing, and this technology provides increased wheel control by
dramatically reducing heave, pitch and roll even on the roughest of roads or
during difficult maneuvers at high speeds. These shock absorbers employ magnetorheological fluid for damping levels adjusted up to
1,000 times per second, making the system exceptionally responsive. Magnetic
Selective Ride Control for the 427 Convertible includes two distinct
calibrations to best support driving style: Tour mode and Sport mode. Ride is
smooth on the road and handling is solid on the track. It’s the best of both
worlds wrapped up in a convertible body — just sit back and enjoy the
adrenaline rush.
For
refined handling and reduced weight, 427 Convertible employs standard Carbon Fiber
elements from both the Z06 and ZR1 including floor panels, fenders and raised
hood. Additionally, the Carbon Fiber front splitter and rocker panels are
optional on the 427 Convertible or part of the available 60th Anniversary
Design Package. This weight optimization along with its 505-horsepower LS7
engine gives 427 Convertible a power-to-weight ratio of 6.6:1 — better than
Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, Audi R8 5.2 RSI Spider, Aston Martin DBS Volante Convertible and Ferrari California Convertible.
It
is our priority to keep our customers safe and we take that responsibility
seriously. That’s why our safety philosophy covers you before, during and after
a collision. With preventative measures that include Active Handling, run-flat
tires and four-wheel antilock brakes minimizing your risk, and OnStar
standard for six months, protecting you in the event of a collision — we have
you covered.
Our
preventative features help ensure Corvette 427 owners have a safe and fun driving
experience. Active Handling and four-wheel antilock brakes help you stay in
control and on the road, while standard xenon high-intensity discharge
headlamps emit 900 lumens of light, keeping the road clear and visible. And,
remain calm if there’s ever a loss of tire pressure because the run-flat tires
help enable safe function for some distance at a moderate speed until the tire
can be repaired.
The
frame and body cage of Corvette 427 are uniquely designed to be lightweight and
still absorb the energy from a crash to ensure the integrity of the passenger
space. This allows the frontal and side-impact air bags2 to help protect you
and any passengers in the vehicle in the event of a collision.
OnStar
with Directions & Connections and Automatic Crash Response4 comes standard
for the first six months. This means in the event of a collision your Corvette
uses built-in sensors that can automatically alert an Advisor, who is immediately
connected into your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your
exact GPS location : even if you’re unable to respond.

steward of our environment. Recently, we’ve developed a new way to communicate
some of the environmentally significant features of each vehicle we make. We
call it Ecologic.

Low-mass
materials, such as an aluminum cockpit structure, lightweight composite body
panels, balsa wood floor panel and an aluminum engine block and cylinder head, reduce
engine workload and contribute to better fuel economy.
A
six-speed transmission allows the engine to operate at a lower rate of speed as
compared to transmissions with fewer gears, which results in better fuel
economy. Transmissions employ shift management technologies when maximum engine
power is not required. When these technologies engage, engine workload is
reduced, which contributes to better fuel economy. Manual transmission has skip
shift technology (1st to 4th). Automatic transmission has 2nd gear start.
The
engine has been factory-filled with engine oil meeting GM's new dexos specification, which has improved viscosity
characteristics as compared to the previous GF-4 oil, contributing to better
fuel economy.
The
engine facilities are landfill-free. These facilities use a process to reuse,
recycle or convert to energy all waste created in their daily operations, which
conserves resources. Some water and engine-air deflectors are manufactured with
more than 99% recycled content, which includes used tires. Recycled material
conserves resources and reduces landfill deposits.
The
Toledo, OH, transmission facility (automatic transmission only) features a
designated habitat area certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, which
provides ecological benefits. The Bowling Green, KY, assembly plant features
solar charging canopies on the grounds, which conserves resources and lessens
dependence on fossil fuels.
Landfill
gas supplies 16% of the energy to heat and cool the Toledo, OH, transmission
facility (automatic transmission only), which makes the facility less reliant
on fossil fuels.
After
the vehicle’s useful life, 85% of it is recyclable. The majority of its components
can be broken down and recycled, which conserves resources and reduces landfill
deposits.
